A special ceramics educational programme took place in Skiathos, travelling from Larissa with the aim of introducing students to the creative possibilities of clay. The invitation from Persefoni Papadopoulou, Director of the EEEEK of the Northern Sporades, was the starting point for a journey filled with inspiration, collaboration, and a shared love of art.

Our first stop was the 1st Primary School of Skiathos, where we received a warm welcome from the school’s Director, Ioannis Stamos. The students had the opportunity to explore clay up close, watch a vessel being created on the pottery wheel, and discover the joy of making something by hand.

We then visited the Special Primary School of Skiathos, where we met the students and the school’s Director, Natalia Sereti. The children’s interaction with ceramics once again highlighted the value of hands-on learning experiences, especially when they create space for imagination and artistic expression.

The programme concluded at the Laboratory of Special Vocational Education and Training of the Northern Sporades, under the direction of Persefoni Papadopoulou. Here, ceramics became a source of curiosity, exploration, and joy. Inspired by the pine forests of Skiathos, the students imagined themselves as part of the natural landscape and used natural materials to create impressions in soft clay. Finally, they had the opportunity to try the pottery wheel — a particularly calming and engaging experience.

A heartfelt thank you to Matoula Papadoulia, Deputy Mayor for Administration and Education of the Municipality of Skiathos, whose support was instrumental in making this journey possible. We would also like to thank every teacher and student who took part and made this experience so meaningful.

For us at Oniro Ceramics, ceramics is a way to share creativity, bring art to new places, and give both children and adults the opportunity to shape something unique with their own hands.
